Project Truro Fabrics Ltd Location Truro, Cornwall Value £50k - £250k Type Design & Build retail unit fit out Overview Complete design & build fit out of new retail unit in pedestrianised town centre zone. Included major structural works, air conditioning, public health facilities, finishes, flooring and bespoke designed heavy duty fabric display stands. Iris undertook all building regulations, structural design and planning permission for the new floors, shopfront and signage, as well as the interior design and actual construction and fit out of the property. The Project This was a particularly complex project. Our client, one of the largest specialist haberdashery retailers in the UK, was relocating from 3 smaller shops to one large unit in a new retail complex in Truro town centre. They required more floor space than was available in the first floor unit so Iris designed and built 2 additional structural floors within the unit, a scheme the planners had said would be impossible to achieve. The ground floor unit below was already occupied and the pedestrian area to the front of the unit required that the massive steels be brought into the unit through a single removed pane of glass over one Sunday night. The 7 metre long, half metre deep beams all made it in time, a triumph of logistics, to be installed over the next week. Custom staircases were fabricated including stainless steel handrails. Iris then install a high specification air conditioning system, split level suspended ceilings with custom sloped bulkheads and all flooring and finishes. The project was completed with a new aluminium glazed shopfront and custom designed one off heavy duty adjustable fabric roll stands, a particular item the client could not find at a sensible price through any supplier. Every stage was impressive, from the initial design work which enabled him to see exactly what his new unit would look like inside, to the meticulous planning which allowed him to sit back and simply wait for the keys. |
