Overview
This fast track project for Worcestershire County Council called for Iris to work with the local authority and centre staff to come up with a functional, simpathetic yet eycatching facility within a public building

The Project
Upon recommendation, Worcestershire County Council called Iris in to solve several issues at their Malvern Library facility. The service centre was to have a radical rethink in terms of it's operation and scope. The facility for payment of council services was to change from manual to automated cash handling, private interview rooms were required, along with display and waiting areas for the public. All this was to be positioned in an area which already felt crowded.

Iris took the architect's concept sketches and feedback from the centre staff and came up with a design for a free standing suite of two acoustically treated rooms which were to tie in with the design of the buiding, allow light through into the circulation area and provide more facilities than were previously available.

Iris succeded in the pint in a half pint glass challenge and the result is a facility which the client team are hoping to use as a model across the region as facilities are streamlined.

The use of high quality materials throughout, including off site spray finished joinery for the pod walls, extensive use of glass and shimmering laminates on full height doors, creates a floating effect for the structure, which, while taking up a large area of the room, does not end up over powering the space.
